Why my son loves wearing moonboots in late April.

Check out my freshly minted 4-year-old son today in his moon boots:

Moonboots? In late April? Unfortunately, it is the only footwear he will sport.

Now, you may also notice his enchanted Christmas colored clothing, including his wedgie shorts. You see, he has been very insistent lately that he dress himself and has apparently been getting fashion advice from a combination Napoleon Dynamite and this guy:

Now, it's not just he moonboots he is wearing in late April that has me worried. No, this has been disturbing me for so many other reasons:

1. He insists on wearing these moonboots out in public - to stores even - and marching around like some sort of mega footed male clogger.

2. He does not wear socks with the boots, instead choosing to grow a vile bacteria equal to in potency of that dripping from Richard Simmon's chest hair.

3. The reason he wears these boots is that he calls them his "Gaston Boots".

4. The reason that he calls them his "Gaston Boots" is that his favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast.

Ugh.

5. The reason that he calls them his "Gaston Boots" is that he worships the evil Gaston and thinks he a brave warrior and the coolest man ever.

Is that as bad as it sounds? No? Well...

6. His favorite thing to do is march around in his "Gaston Boots" and yell, "KILL THE BEAST!" while stabbing his plastic sword in the air.

7. He gets angry when the beast kills Gaston at the end of the movie.

And THAT, my friends, is why he is wearing Moon boots in late April.

I am so worried about that kid.

**The dumpster dive will be posted on Friday. Time to gather the fam around the computer and enjoy Cheeseboy frolicking in garbage.

Well, Alex also wears his moonboots in April but he doesn't do all the other things (especially "Kill the Beast" nor has even seen Beauty and the Beast so I guess I'll stop worrying about Alex now that I know your child is the abnormal one :)

That is a GREAT picture of C though!!!

I love this! Get some of your own! "Kill the Beast!"

All is not lost. At least he's not singing the song "Tomorrow" from the show Annie like someone I know used to do. Nor is his favorite movie "The Phantom of the Opera" like someone's used to be. this same "someone" also wore a pair of red, green, and yellow galoshes all summer once.

That "someone" will remain nameless so that he does not get teased. I'll just say, he broke his arm today. That could be one of hundreds of little boys across America, so it's a vague enough clue.

By the way, I love the moon boot look!

I think you should steer him towards Daisy Dukes.

Wow, you're inspiring your offspring to pick some great heroes, aren't you?

I was required to attend a training today up at the Y and I found myself looking around the room. For some reason, I thought you might be there getting punished along with the rest of us. I then realized that you probably don't teach anywhere near Happy Valley.

Hakuna Matata.

Wait, is Scar your son's hero, too?

LOL! That is magnificent. I love Gaston. I think your son maybe a trend setter.

Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com said...

He is so beautiful and adorable, albeit a rather idiosyncratic trend setter. I might suggest that when you hide those boots - say, in the nearest dumpster when he's asleep - you also hide those loud green shorts.
Cheers,
Robyn
PS I saw your comment about Ellen on Bumpkin's blog. I totally agree. She WAS my favorite comedian, until she lost her personality when she got the Idol gig. Strange.

Since Paige Davis toured on Broadway's Beauty & the Beast (as Babette in her second year), sounds like you should introduce your son to her.

shortmama said...

Aww but his cuteness distracts from his Gaston boots!

See Mom Smile said...

Could be worse. His hero could be the Sea Witch from Little Mermaid. Pick your battles dad!

ScoMan said...

Is there a problem with rooting for the bad guy?

I don't think so.

Watch Dr Horrible, then get back to me.

Sometimes I feel like wearing welding goggles.

That pic is just the cutest! Let him wear what he wants... He could get away with anything. :)
"Kill the beast!" That is so funny...
/Jo.
Ps. A sad fact of truth: The weather here still requires Moon boots some mornings sending my son off to school... But spring is coming. It is. The snow I might have seen falling from the sky yesterday, was probably only... ash...?

Queenie Jeannie said...

Can I vote to see your son singing/saying that??? We need a cute video!!!

Fabulous!!!!

Queenie Jeannie said...

Oh, and my son? Who is 18 today?? Yeah, for the longggggest time, his favorite movie was Snow White. He was so into the dwarfs!

Hi Hoooooooo!!!!!

tammy said...

Don't you just love little boys?

I heard you may get snow today, so maybe he knows what he's doing by wearing those boots.

My favorite part is him running around yelling "Kill the beast!". Someone needs to root for the bad guy. Does he watch the movie thinking the end will be different and maybe Gaston won't be killed each time?

DUDE! gaston is the shiznizel! i mean, the dude drinks straight eggs. that's hardcore. so glad to see your son has such an amazing role model! :) and i wouldn't worry about the moon boots...my boys still wear their star wars and spider man costumes to the store.

My 4 year old daughter wears pink moon boots almost everyday-- I think they're soul mates!!

does he eat 4 dozen eggs every morning to help him get large? so he can be roughly the size of a barge?

He is as cute as buttons.

My sister wore her rain boots rain or shine, hot or cold. But she was emulating Wonder Women. I didn't know any kids looked up to Gaston. The good news is that you have foiled Disney's evil plot to teach our children to care about people different than us and to not judge a book by its cover. Your kids a FREE THINKER!! YAY!!

Hutch said...

how cute is he? I wouldn't be too worried unless this is still happening in a few years. A good imagination is very important...might wanna keep him away from any sharp objects though.

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

I love it! Asher will ONLY wear John Deere shirts, and Elijah would only wear Thomas the Train forever. Ahh..gotta love kids!

Beth Zimmerman said...

They all seem to pick something like that. It's a little disturbing that he roots for Gaston though! LOL

Macey said...

Hey, if you can't do this stuff when you're 4, when can ya?

You've given me the greatest gift today! I've had a suckfest of a day and then someone named Cheeseboy comments on my blog and I find your faboosh blog! Thank you. I am so here to stay and just in time for the dumpster dive. Sweet!

First of all that boy is a cutie patootie. Secondly, my 3 daughters spent most of the 4th year of their lives in tutu's, pink ones, so be grateful that it's Gaston Boots.

And most of all, my sister just told me this ridiculous story of a mother who showed up at her Mommy and Me playgroup. She had a baby and a 4 year old son. She announced that the boy's name was "Big Kid." That monstrosity was his legal name, Big KId. She went on to say that lately Big Kid has been calling himself, Belle, after Beauty and the Beast's, Belle. She was going to let him decide what name he wanted to be saddled with for the rest of his life.

Gaston boots are a piece of cake, Cheeseboy.

Aw...he is soooo cute! My 6 year-old also LOVES the Christmas ensemble year-round and I have just gotten used it and given up fighting him over his choice of clothing. The good thing is that this age group tends to dress in rather, er, unique ways and if you think your kid is weird, most likely there is someone even weirder.

Kids in boots ( in all seasons but winter) rock!! Yours is pretty cute, too!!

Hey, Gaston is the epitome of manliness. Every last inch of him is covered with hair. Disney says that's manly.

Stephanie said...

LOL Seems like a perfectly logical explanation to me:)

Connie said...

Today would have been a great day to wear moon boots with the snow we had. That boy just wants to be prepared!

At least he's not in school, where the teacher and all the kids have to smell his feet. (That's called assuming)

Serene is my name, not my life! said...

Ha ha ha! And yes, that really was out loud.
If it's any consolation, my son is insistant on wearing shorts. All year round. No matter that there's 6 feet of snow on the ground. I had to force him to take off a pair that were size 3-6 months the other day.
Total daisy dukes.

@ Bibi - Gaston might actually have some nicely fragrenced insoles. I'll have to check.

@ Ally - Apparently, he is not the only one.

@ Tammy1 - He is the very definition of "abnormal".

@ Betsy - The beast really should have died. There should be a remake.

@ Lori - You are bringing back memories of your son. I had forgotten his oddities.

@ Mami - Ha ha!

@ Kristina - Oh no. The daisy dukes are for my wife, but she refuses.

@ Teachinfourth - LOL. I'll have to ask him about Scar. And I am in the valley just north of Provo and I really never want to go to the Y for anything except to watch the Utes beat the cougars. (I hope you're not a cougar fan.)

@ TS - Well, since I never set any trends...

@ Rawkn - See my post for today (Thursday). There might be some boots in that dumpster with me.

@ Sco - So THAT's what she was in!

@ Shortmama - Thanks, and thank goodness he is cute.

@ Sea Mom Smile - That would be worse, especially if he wanted her cleavage.

@ ScoMan - Awesome comment about the goggles. Ha!

@ Jarnebrand - Oh, that sucks about the ash. I don't think we have any volcanoes near us, but I guess that one is no where near you.

@ Queenie - Your son looks pretty cool. I feel better. I'll see what I can do about the video.

@ Tammy2 - Yes, he does watch in hopes that the ending will change. He still doesn't get that. He gets his looks from his mom, but his brains from me.

@ Alicia - Ha! Well, he has a Spiderman costume too. That's more of his manly wear.

@ Melinda - 17 years and we will definitely have to hook them up.

@ Reluctant - That was some awesome rhymes. He likes eggs, but not that much.

@ Alex - yeah, that is what I was thinking - free thinker! Perfect. I do love foiling Disney. There is something very satisfying about that.

@ Hutch - good thinking. I have hidden my collection of hunting knives.

@ Sara - Well, I really would prefer Thomas the Train.

@ Beth - Yep. But I am just happy he doesn't take after Belle.

@ Mimi - True. I worry about his comfort though. The other kids are wearing SANDLES outside.

@ Joanne - So glad I found you. I had a feeling you were in the dumps today. Welcome and please comment at will.

@ onlyyou - I really hope he outgrows this. I don't want him at prom with moon boots on. I suppose he probably wouldn't be going to prom if he were still wearing them at that age.

@ Claire - Thanks. I like to think so.

@ Lindzena - You're right - just like Disney always is!

@ Modern - That's what I thought after I got done writing it.

@ Connie - No, he's not in school, thankfully. But WE get to smell them, and that is worse... to me.

@ Serene - Hm. Well, shorts are at least COOL!

I let my older two kids wear their Halloween costumes for a couple of years. My son was Buzz Lightyear and my oldest daughter was a pink Power Ranger until they wore out those costumes.

I think it's normal for kids to express themselves at an early age. My older 2 dress normal now and I let my youngest dress herself. I figure it's cute when they're young. Imagine if my son wanted to be Buzz Lightyear now and he couldn't wear that to work... That would be weird.

You son is adorable in his boots. Please don't discourage him from wearing them. They're not going to fit him forever!
:)

I love so much that he associated his moon boots with Gaston. And that his favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast. :)

After all your comments I totally forgot what your blog was about - oh - wreaking cuteness! Cute boy and at least he isn't calling himself "Belle" like that one kid. Pick your battles - never let moon boots be one of them. That's what I always say. A famous quote that is.
