Why are Girl Scout Cookies only available once a year?

This is one of those things I watch and think, "Oh, why didn't I think of writing that?!" Kudos to you SNL, you beat me to the punch this time, but I'll be back.

This is hilarious stuff.

Well, the Keebler elves cookies are awfully good for the other 10 months of the year that G.S. cookies aren't on sale. Thanks for the funny and the Anniversary greetings.

Truer words have never been spoken. Those girl scouts hold those cookies hostage! It's not right. I am an American; I should be able to buy and eat those cookies year round. Freedom people, freedom!

P.S. I'm linking to this post on Monday for my, "I Comment Therefore I Am" post.

one thing I hate about thin mints is the false advertising. They don't make me thin no matter how many I eat...

Seriously. What the heck? Although I may or may not have some stashed away for an emergency.

Allegedly.

In my secret stash.

That is secret.

Oh and the sign by my front door actually says "No soliciting unless you're selling girlscout cookies".

that weekend update was the only funny part of SNL last week!

I'm not allowed to watch it because my geographic location is being discriminated against.

Which can only mean one thing.. they're closing in.. and they'll be here soon..

Do-si-dos are my fave, but I don't think they call them that anymore. The reason for the once a year selling is clear. It's to mitigate the damage done to girl-scout-cookie-addicts' bodies. Although this is not one of my many addictions, I know that if they were available all year 'round, and legally available that much, it'd be worse than if cocaine and heroin were made legal. It's a kind of limited prohibition for our own protection. Ok, I know. I write too much about addiction issues. I just can't stop myself...

I'd get really fat from my students selling them if they were available year round!!! :-)

Have you had thin mints from the freezer? Girl Scout crack I tell ya!

It's best they keep it to once a year. ;)

Maybe they wouldn't be appreciated for the wonderfulness they are if we could get them year round?

snl always beats me to the punch.

I have 21 cases of the Canadian Girl Guide cookies in my basement that I'm trying to get rid of...

Rats! I can't see it, they only stream to the U.S. I'm trusting it was hilarious if you posted it :-)

This is really funny. I am glad they aren't around all year though...because I would buy them....lol

You are one follower closer to your goal...I am following you now!

HAH! That's why I made sure my oldest daughter was a girl scout for years....so I could hoard those lovely, tasty cookies for a later date! LOL They are SOOO yummy! I'll have to try the frozen thin mints he suggested....I need to have my mind blown too. :)

I'm usually attacked when leaving the grocery store. I like to blow their little minds by asking which cookie is low-fat. In the ensuing confusion, I make my getaway!

Oh man, those little girls coming to my door kill all my resistance.

I have news for the Girl Scouts - YOU CAN BUY THEM ONLINE! Ebay, I kid you not: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=girl+scout+cookies+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=girl+schout+cookies&_rdc=1

So, you have to mortgage your home a second time, but by golly they are online.

LOL

Ha! The video is hilarious. I know no children in berets, so I'm screwed.
Also. I can NOT believe you have Taylor Lautner on your worst actor poll. Boo. Okay, he's not THAT good...but he's pretty!

Jason, as himself said...

I voted for Taylor Lautner on your sidebar poll. Although now that I think of it, I have no personal experience upon which to base that vote; I've never seen any of his movies. BUT, and this is a big BUT, he lives a few blocks away from me and he went to my daughter's high school. She says he's nice but extremely into himself. Of course he is!

So there you have it. I'm sure you were dying to know.

Awesome!! I guess people wouldn't be so rabid to have them if they were an "everyday" kinda thing....

Powdered Toast Man said...

that was humorous but I would of rather read it as a post from you. I want you to do a follow up post, maybe about why the boy scouts don't have their own cookies or snacks to sell.

Robin said...

Ive often thought that as well...and do you know that the girls scout troop only gets 10 cents of the money from each box..the rest goes to corporate salary..yes how about that..I was a girl scout cookie Mom for years...we did all the work and they get all the accolades...

Emmy said...

Lol! That is awesome and Thin Mints are the best

Just SO said...

Mmmmm thin mints... I wonder if there is some government conspiracy/coverup that would explain all of this. I'm sure there is.

Howdy Cheeseboy from Utah - nice to meet ya! Thanks for popping in to visit me in PA and for introducing your blog. I've been enjoying the read and the laughs!

p.s. I'm a 100% authentic registered Girl Scout, but I won't take offense to this witty SNL skit! My two girls have been active Scouts for 5 years now. Do you know what the sad part is about the cookie sales? The troop only earns .35 per box sold. They are $3.50 per box.

I'll pop back in to visit again soon!

I feel the same about Cadburys creme eggs!

Oh does the man have a point! Now I want cookies. And for that - I blame you.
