Utah Man, sir, Utah Man am I!

We interrupt our normal Blog O' Cheese nonsense and shenanigans to bring you this breaking news:

The University of Utah has accepted the invitation to join the PAC 10!

The press conference is on my television right now and I have never been prouder to be a Ute!

As a lifelong Ute fan, season ticket holder and alum, I never thought I'd see this day. Nevertheless, at one point or another I never thought I'd see these things happen:

1. Beating the hated and previously dominant rival BYU in football 3 straight times when beating them once was previously deemed daunting. (1993-1995).

2. The basketball team making the final four and nearly winning the national championship. (Lost to Kentucky in the 1998 final.)

3. Having two #1 draft picks in the same year. (2004 - Alex Smith & Andew Bogut)

4. Undefeated football seasons in 2004 & 2008.

5. Fiesta Bowl & Sugar Bowl Champions!!!

It will sure be nice to add "Rose Bowl Champions" to that list.

Now I am giving up a road trip to Laramie, Wyoming for a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona; Albuquerque, New Mexico for Los Angeles and San Fransisco, California.

Instead of Air Force and San Diego State entering our stadium, we will have USC and Oregon.

It's been a long trip as a fan of a small dog school, but now we are a big dog.  It will be so strange to no longer be considered an underdog.

I am so excited!  IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A UTE!

Not such a good day to be a BYU Cougar.

It's always a great feeling when your team does well, especially when you've stuck with them during the bad years!
(Go Hogs!) heehee

Since I don't know a thing about sports, this is what I hear, "Bwaaa, bwaaa, bwaaa, bwaaaa, bwaaaa, bwaaa, bwaaaa."

But, it sure sounds like you're excited. Like if I were to find a pair of sparkly red Jimmy Choos for 50 bucks, kind of excited. So, YAYYYY for you!

Won't see USC for two years, but you'll have plenty of opportunities to beat some Ducks!

I'm with Joann....don't know anything about sports (ok, maybe a little about hockey)....but good for you!

And lately it's never a good day to be a WSU Cougar! We look forward to playing you!!

Congrats!

And, Texas (my alma mater or point of geometric matriculation if you will), will be getting its own television network.

Their conference will eventually consist of UT Austin, UTEP (El Paso), UTD (Dallas), UT Health Science Center, um, and probably Oklahoma State.

I love going to college football games just to watch the drunken frat bros in the stands.

I'm happy for you. Yeah!

Congrats!! Are you doing some sort of happy dance? Will there be film footage of such dancing extravaganza?

Seriously that is cool!!

It's going to be interesting to see how the Pac-10 react to having a team like Utah in there. It will help me in remembering the Pac-10 teams now too since they can be paired up in my head with Colorado. I've always associated teams with their counterpart/rival in geography (USC-UCLA, Cal-Stanford, etc), although it doesn't quite work with San Diego or Oregon.

I used to go to the U and I used to work at the U of U hospital.

LONG LIVE the UTES!!

Forget about those pesty Cougars in Provo.

I look better in red anyway!

Yay for Utah?
PAC 10 IS pretty dang cool. Speaking from a PAC 10 state. :)

I'm not a football fan, but this post made me laugh. Not only did I love your list, but the fact that you are committed enough to change your road trip plans is just plain awesome.

San Francisco is a very good place. :)

I am not sure what a lot of that stuff means, but I know the road trip will be amazing! I graduated from the University of Texas, and I guess we're in the Big 12? But it won't be 12 anymore? I don't quite get it all, but that's what I can put together from your post and the things my friends tell me. :)

Cheeseboy! I have to tell you that in my narcotic/post surgery state when I saw your commment I laughed!
Something about the name Cheeseboy and the little picture just makes a person feel happy! Yah know...
I'm glad you found my blog so I could find yours.
Because I am a non confontational and very nice person I will endeavor to not hold it against you that you are a Utah fan! Ha Ha
Come on you knew someone wad going to say it (big smile).
Yes it's true we are BYU fans. We've been through the best years and the worst for the past 28 years and as any true fan knows you've got to stick with your team. I'm 10 years older than you so I went to BYU during the Steve Young years.
Anyway, I do congratulate Utah on going to the pack 10 - that will be fun for the fans!
I don't know what my husband is going to do with his shirt that says "I cheer for BYU and anyone who plays Utah".
I guess he can still wear it:)

Nice to meet you Cheeseboy - I like your blog already!

I'm happy for you since it sounds like something great ... but WHAT DOES IT MEAN? I know in our state Mizzou was going through this same kind of discussion but my wife and I just looked at each other and shrugged? As long as I have somebody to play ball with, I do not understand all the conference stuff. Sorry I never passed the final exam to be a REAL GUY? W.C.C.

Finally a post I can relate to! Too bad it looks like from the comments (and also lack thereof) none of your other readers can! (actually I really liked the Mr. Rogers post the other day - I had no idea he killed himself until now).

Go Utes!

Hey, looks like you have plenty of fans already.
Mentioned you in our "blogs of note" we do every Friday, we like your blog.
SDSU football, didn't you beat us umpteen times? So embarrassing.
Our blog covers the range, and it angers some people; that's why we have a warning banner, not due to sex, due to liberal bias.
Go figure.
I thought we were in America.

By the way ... I bet McDonalds is going to LOVE hosting your 300+ video! LOL!

Traci said...

Now which blanket will my brother in law use at football games? His Utes blanket or that of his alma mater Washington State? (it's already a topic that has been seriously discussed)

I also saw your lovely wife today and she said you were running the Ragnar. Hopefully, a post will be forthcoming. You know, for those of us who don't really want to sleep for a few hours at Wasatch High school or run carrying a tent.

Sam Liu said...

I have no idea what this means, but you most certainly sound happy - so I'm happy for you. Congrats :D

Ah, the death of a rivalry. Great for Utah! I read one story in Deseret News that said the Pac-10 is currently re-negotiating a TV contract that could give each school in the conference 15-20 million/year. Obviously, still tentative when reported. But a ton better than the approximately 1.7 million/year for BYU's TV contract. It's nice that at least one Utah team can be a big boy team.

I am a Utah mansir, er, womansir, too. And I'm as pleased as a music major could possibly be about this news.
