There are two, count them TWO men bloggers in Utah that happen to be elementary school teachers. It's a good thing we have met and have become friends, because if we became mortal enemies, they might have to close down the public school system.
Anyway, my good friend, Mr. Z posted today about giving your kid's teachers gifts. A little "do's and don'ts", if you will. It is the perfect guide. He's entitled it, "So Just What do You Give That Teacher for Christmas?" And this brilliant post is definitely worth a read because I agree with every... single... point. YOU CAN FIND IT HERE.
Or here...
I really need a button.
In other news, today's Song of the Day is from Coldplay. They just released their first Christmas tune and I have to say, I quite enjoy it. So much so that I actually forked out the $1.29 to buy it on iTunes. (Actually, I used a gift card, but still!) Here's Coldplay's Christmas Lights. (I apologize for the crummy commercial.)

Good song. I want that piano in the video.
I guess that's cool that Coldplay wrote an original Christmas song, but I would have preferred they cover a classic carol like "Santa Baby" or "The Chipmunk Song."
That is an awesome post.
Can I just say thank you for sharing. The song rings a little too true this Christmas. Have a Merry Holiday.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. I agree with 'just SO'-I want that piano.
NOW about teacher presents. How do you feel about the old parents who gave up on winning most favorite parent status with the cutest most craftiest teacher gift ever and who now just let it slip their mind? Completely by accident of course.
btw. I LOVE LOVE LOVE teachers. Thanks for the link to his post. Would that you two were my boy's teacher.
That is a fantastic song, Abe…thanks for sharing it with those of us who were still as of yet unaware.
Also, thanks for the shout-out.
Ok, I've already listened to this song 5 times in a row. Am I sick or what? P.S. Add a (?) at the end of my first sentence in my first comment. Thanks! (I hate grammar.)
That's a funny post you linked too. I wasn't planning to give a teacher gift this year because Nathan's school wants us to draw from their "wish list" and we can't afford it but maybe I could have him make something :)
I could hook you up with a button ... is that a creative Christmas present?
That song is well worth $1.29! It's even better than Neil Diamond singing Christmas songs!
Thanks for sharing!
The thought of giving a teacher a gift was never a consideration when I was growing up. At least not in my family! I think it's a great idea and we did it when our kids were in grade school.
You Elementary Ed teachers get all the good crap. I taught SPED and Secondary Ed. for 5 years and I got NOTHING!
Just knowing that I was Teaching 2 Touch a Life 4 Ever made up for it.
Are tetanus shots on the list?
I heard this the other day on my satellite radio and I've meaning to download it, but that's how dang busy Christmas keeps you, I can't even take a second to download a Christmas tune!
I'm off to read Copyboy, but here's what I always give, an American Express gift card. It's a little less forward than cash, but it's the same idea. Spend it anywhere. I figure teachers have enough sweet smelling lotions from Bath and Body works, especially you, Cheese.
I love coldplay...I think the song sounds great!
I love your friends post too. Even from the first one...sometimes people forget teacher are people too....aaawwwwhhhhh!!!
Good reminder on teacher gifts! And I like that Christmas song, too--love Coldplay.
My Sister is a teacher and i swear she has some GREAT parents in her area. She makes out like a bandit every Christmas with so many giftcards to restraunts and bookstores with only a few minor stuffed animal and candy snafus. I'm always amazed at what she comes away with. Hope you have a great Christmas as well.
Nice song. Thanks. It's nice to have something new to add to my Christmas collection. Great post on the teacher gifts. I will share it, on my sidebar.
I MUST read the post on what to give the teachers, although I think it's too late for this year.
I already got them, and this I think might be kind of lame, but it's a mango tree that will be planted in their name at a school in a third world country. I bought it through Plan Canada.
Have a happy holiday!!
As a former teacher (now one of those stay-at-home mommy people), I have to say that I always LOVED getting gift cards. I worked in low income and I usually ended up with used stuffed animals and TONS of coffee cups. I don't even drink coffee. Bless their little hearts.
I'll check out his blog. But seriously, what are the chances of two men elementary school teachers in Utah?
Coldplay is cool but I can't stand his voice. I know, I know. I have issues.
Ooooh, thanks, I hadn't seen the video yet and I didn't get any commercials :-)
Cool song!
Yeah preschool teachers are as spoiled as elementary teachers but every so often a parent will surprise us!!
Hey congratulations on your big win over at Kelley's break room!! I guess Teri Hatcher had no idea she was standing next to a celebrity blogger!!
Fun song. Thanks for the link to your friend's blog. I'm gonna stick with my homeade toffee. It really is fantastic and homeade. I like what your friend said about quality versus quanity. I won't deny that my toffee is "the good stuff." Although I understand about trying to stay fit. =D
There is another Utah, educator-boy out there. I read him now and then.

Great post by Mr. Z! I guess you probably have a collection of crummy gifts too. But, I do hope you also have a few that you treasure as well.
I was one of those CRAPPY parents who never realized we should give teacher gifts.
I'm sure we are legendary at your former school. Or maybe just cause my oldest was a jerk. Either way.
Thanks so much for sharing this song (and the Christmas list from teachingfourth). Coldplay=heaven.
y'know... I think there are 3 of you male Utah teacher bloggers after all... maybe more, but I only read 3 of your blogs. (I know a fourth, but his wife took over their blog... boo)
and now 3 of you have mentioned teacher gifts, which I've GOT to get done today!!!
too bad I'm all out of the scented lotion that I had an 8 year supply of after teaching Kindergarten all those many years past!
LOVE Coldplay!
ah, I would love to see a film with two teachers who are mortal enemies :) Imagine the plot and twists!
I took your advice, read the other school teacher's blog, and ate the candy myself. Our teachers got Sabuda pop-up books for Christmas, which they really seemed to enjoy!
Thanks for the help!
Oh well...too bad I didn't get here sooner. I did candy. Tsk. I wonder if I well remember next year.
Thanks Cheeseboy! Just bought this and I hadn't heard about it until I read it here. You rock!
