Goal kickers have to start somewhere!

Ever teach anyone how to fold a peace crane? You have to be a genius to do something like that!

I have a collection of folded art from my days in the classroom. Mine are even inscripted with some really nice words...

I wonder if I could make an oragami Snuggie?

TisforTonya said...

I never did learn how to fold those fortune tellers... I could make a mean hat or boat though...

I'll have to have H. bring for show & tell the neat thing some Asian kid made for her at the Fair this year. It seriously takes talent to do some of the funky things they do with paper. But yes, he might be destined to be a fortune teller in the end!

I second that emotion! As wiseman and Origami Master Kenny Rogers has said, time and again: "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em."

You've just given me new ideas on career paths, Cheeseboy. (I gave up on the origami thing long ago.) Now, I'm going to become a certified Ninja Chinese Throwing Star Manufacturer. PS What is that?

the last time I was in the "land of the rising sun," my wife's young nephews whipped me up some oragmi animals that just blew my mind. Not only because how good they were, but how fast they made them.
Love the graph!

Are you sure there wasn't a larger percentage of airline pilots? 'Cause paper airplanes and origami are closely linked!

Corrina Terry said...

I have been out of the link for a week now. This was great!!! :o)

Maybe they should just teach how to fold toilet paper effectively in high school.

Copyboy said...

I love these graphs!!!

Kellie said...

You have waaaay too much time on your hands, dude.

W.C.Camp said...

How about toilet paper users - WHAT? - what do you with toilet paper ... I thought that was a giant rolled stockpile of origami paper? W.C.C.

Nicole said...

I swear.. you are killing me! You must have your wife rolling with laughter!

To chose a comment, I will need you to pick a color, then a number. If my kids drive teachers as crazy with fortune tellers as they do me, then I feel for you. I'll send you a silly band to feel better.

Jackee said...

And it would teach such patience in people too! :o)

I think I'll have to take up fortune telling via biology rather than oragami since it wasn't offered in my schools.

Thanks for the pie chart!

this post made me open my eyes and stop squinting!!!

WOW!! We should raise AWARENESS about this! Where would this world be if these professions decline??? GAH! ;p

baygirl32 said...

does your origmai include more than fortune tellers and ninja stars? (obviously not including boats, hats and airplanes because everyone can make those)

I'm pretty sure you forgot the section for Teacher who blogs. I couldn't attempt Origami to save my life, but my daughter makes the most amazing animals - Flamingo's being her specialty. She says she wants to be a teacher so, come on, you must have this hidden talent - don't be afraid to show us....

I employ real live rocket scientists, and they fold frequently. Seriously. Although I'm not sure why...

Macey said...

You need to do a PSA on this.

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

I couldn't agree more! I need to teach my students that right now.

Teachinfourth said...

It's all about cheese ninjas...

Hart Johnson said...

And here I was sure airplane engineers would get at least half! teehee--love it!

Joann Mannix said...

I cannot do origami for the life of me. I can't even make a paper airplane. Nor can I whistle. But I can do those little foldup paper games where you have all kinds of pockets and you move the paper back and forth to find the answers. And I'm GREAT at making awesome answers like, "Your hair at some point in your life will resemble a Donald Trump 'do."

Cheese, I read a comment of yours on somebody's blog and you were talking about adding other children to the mix. DO IT. Convince your wife that sometimes little girls are born.

You left off contortionist. There's a definite origami link there.

My brother always had a knack for origami.

I could never figure out how to do that blasted swan!

Marnie said...

Some of those designs can boggle the mind. Well mine anyways :0)

I've always thought I should teach it in first grade. And now I think I will. And, p.s. did you forget restaurant server? Because I'm pretty sure they have a master's degree in origami to be able to fold those napkins at those really nice restaurants.

I got so stinkin' angry every time I pick my son up from school after asking him if he made any origami and he says no. RIDICULOUS!!!!

How kind of you to inquire about sweater making!
No, the sweater took me five years to make because I put it in a bag for 4.5 years and forgot all about it.
A kid growing out of a sweater you're making usually means you'll have to find another kid the right size to wear it. Which is why I don't ever start out knitting for my youngest.
Though at 5 years per sweater it's arguable that I'm hardly really knitting at all.

It would be so much better than some things I think they are teaching!

Anything Fits A Naked Man said...

I have often lamented, since graduating high school many, many years ago, that I didn't more actively pursue fortune telling. WHAT was I thinking with the Musical Theater crap?

Powdered Toast Man said...

there is going to be a big demand for ninja star field goal kicker manufacturer

This is the single best argument for origami folding I have ever seen.
