Three not-so-important things... but read anyway.

Today's post will be short and sweet and I hesitated to even do a post as yesterday's poop-orama took me over two hours to write.  Therefore, I admonish you to read that post first if you have not already.

Alas, the blogging addiction took over and I was drawn to the laptop like a scout with a stick to a campfire.   So, some random things.

1. A lot of people ask me what I do during the summer.  Allow me to give you just a sample of what I have done this week:

Monday:
9:00 -Wake up
10:00 -Went to the Natural History Museum where not a single exhibit has changed since I was my son's age.
12:00 - Went to a hole-in-the-wall pizza place for some greasy pizza.
1:00 - Home for a two hour nap.
3:00 - Jog
4:00 - 7:00 - Sitting on couch.
7:00 - Next door neighbors for weekly pool party.
9:00 - Watched a very disappointing movie.  (Except for the part where the kid shoots a dart into his mom's bra insert.) It was Gentleman Broncos.
11:00 - Bed

Today:
7:00 - Wake up. Put on Spongebob for the boys.  Back to bed.
9:00 - Wake up for real.
11:00 - Hiking in Little Cottonwood Canyon with a picnic.
2:00 - Home and jog.
3:00 - Wheeler Farm to see the animals.

And here I am at home, completely rested and relaxed.  Boy o' boy, do I love the summertime!

2. When I got home today, I got this AWESOME email:

Dear Mr. Cheeseboy,

Last year my friends and I were in 6th grade at your school.
We thought you were the coolest, greatest teacher of all time.*
Since then, we have been co-authoring a book about people we knew and YOU take place as one of the main characters.
If you want to find out who you are in the story you have to read the book, which I have attached.
Anyway, the reason I've sent you this is for your permission to continue using your name (we have changed the spelling).
Also, WE DO PLAN ON PUBLISHING THIS!

PLEASE write back with your reply for using your name and your thoughts on the story.  Thank you!

Sincerely, Brittany and Ashlee

* I added this sentence.

So, of course I decided to check out this story, which is actually VERY GOOD for a couple of twelve year olds.  Here are a couple of sample sentences about me:

"Welcome to your first day of your big mission, Mr. Cheeseboy said as I entered the base. He had a huge smile on his face and I could tell he wasn't joking."

"You see, my commander, Mr. Cheeseboy - "
"You mean the same Mr. Cheeseboy that teaches fourth grade** down the at the school down the street?"
"Yep, the same."

** I actually teach first grade, but we are talking simple semantics here.

I can't wait for it to be published!  I mean, IT WILL be published!  These girls are not going to take no for an answer.

3. Finally, on my way to the Utah Natural History Museum with my boys, I saw this poor BYU fan.  Being avid Ute fans, my boys had never seen an actual BYU fan in the flesh, so I had to point one out to them.

  1. you ARE the kid who never grew up!

    Good for you!

that poor soul at the end got that t-shirt from some generous byu alumni!

  2. You're living the good life my friend! Soak it all up -- school will start sooner than you want it to, I'm sure. :)

  3. Is this going to be published in a Miley Cyrus Choose Your Own Adventure book?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wow. You are a good writer.
Laughed out loud about your comment warning : )

  5. Now I for sure need to know where you teach school. I;m scouting for a decent teacher for Sissy in like 3 years.

Then she could write a book about you, get published and take care of her Mimi forever.

  6. Glad you are enjoying your summer with your family! Your boys are growing up fast and they will always remember their quality time spent with dad.

  7. Oh, that poor BYU fan. It just breaks my heart. But there are so many of them all over the place up there you can't possibly help ALL of them, can you?

    Congrats on being a celebrity.

Keep enjoying your summer! Mine's almost over.

  8. Cheeseboy, make sure those kids cut you in for a few percentage points on the 1st edition Hardcover. Seems like from your daily schedule you are practicing for retirement so those residuals will come in handy for the life you have become accustomed. W.C.C.

  9. I'm going to agree with Pedaling that some awesome BYU fan came by and was generous enough to give the guy the shirt off his back.

gimme a break - my F.I.L. was a professor at the Y for years, I'd be disowned and divorced if I didn't cheer for the cougs!

  10. Hole-in-the-wall Za? You got to give us more to go on.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey we went to the UMNH this week too! You kinda have to make your own fun there... I love the way you write.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bright spot of my day. This post, I mean.

    GO UTES!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sounds like your summers are busy and loaded with fun. I'm jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm writing a book, too! What a coincidence, Abe! It just so happens that I wanted to use your name as well. You see, you're the guy who wants to be just like a fellow teacher but who teaches 5th grade at another school.

    Your character is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  15. You should have used that as a teaching opportunity for the children.

"Look kids - if you cheer for BYU you will wind up living on the streets."

And I want to send my kids over to your summer camp. It sounds way fun!

    ReplyDelete
  16. You sleep in til 9:00?? The day is half over by then. At least according to my mom. I grew up with her not wanting to go anywhere after noon.

School starts for us tomorrow. Aren't you glad you don't live here?

(And Teachinfourth: your comments have been awesome lately. Everywhere I go you're making me laugh).

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm jealous of your days...I wish I had a job like that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i also wonder why the museums don't get as updated as we'd like? lucky you with your long summer vacay. enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  19. If I've told you once, I've told you a million times: your boys are so darn cute. Thanks for ending the pooparama. That is very cool that your former students are so creative and inspired by you to get published.

  20. It's the Natural History Museum. What do you expect - archeologists to reveal they've been holding back, like they were hiding all the good stuff up in the attic?

"Whoa! How long has this mastadon been up here behind the water heater?" Hee hee!

And I love how you saw that guy on the 13th East exit, which I took every day for four straight years. Finally, a Zoobie admitting there's only one place to get a decent education, and that's the School of the Prophets. Let that be a lesson to the rest of you homeless cougs!

  21. Great pictures! And it looks like you're really enjoying your summer :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I had to read your "poop-orama" sentence to my kids...so that I could have more computer time tonight:) "Cool Mom-keep reading!"

    ReplyDelete
  23. The poop story was still the best ever.
Also, I'm impressed with the e-mail they sent you. Sounds pretty smart for a couple 13 year olds!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Poop, poop and more poop! lol

I am convinced that if my kids had teachers like you they would have stayed in school and not been home schooled. You pretty much rock!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I forgot to mention that I'm all basking over here in the glow of the Cheeseroll!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Congrats on making the leap into the world of "fictional character". It's a goal I hope to accomplish myself someday.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oooh..you must let me know when it comes out. I'll buy it and read it from cover to cover. Really.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the time spent sitting on the couch. Are you just staring into space during that time because that would just be a super productive use of time. I love that kind of couch time.

Also, those girls are some scary, bad ass authors. I'd hate to be the agent they strong arm into publishing their book. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Word. My favorite part was how you put on Spongebob and went back to sleep. As soon as Spongebob can keep my son from dumping all my valuables in the toilet, and pouring juice into my laptop, I'm all over that.
I have an award for you over at my blog. Try to contain your enthusiasm, you're embarrassing yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sounds like your summer is going pretty well. Gotta love the afternoon naps.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You are a muse! Literature is written about you. I might be a little jealous. They should spell your name, "Cheezboi".

    ReplyDelete
  32. hahaha That BYU fan picture is AWESOME! I have a couple of hardcore Ute fans that would love that, I'll have to direct them over here!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh summers do sound nice for you. Very jealous of the sleeping in. Sometimes if mids get up early enough, Eric will put a show on for them so I can actually sleep in.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, you must feel so happy to be featured as a main character in a book! And I bet it's brilliant. I shall definitely try and get my hands on a copy when it's published :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, to have summers off... life is rough.

And if they actively changed the Natural History Museum, then it wouldn't reflect the natural history of exhibits left alone... (ours never changes either)--it DOES look like you take your kids to do some fun stuff though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "...7:00 put Spongebob for the boys. Back to bed. 9:00 - Wake up for real..."

that was my favourite part ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. You're livin' it up! Just a few more weeks and you'll have stay up after turning on Sponge Bob for the kids!

In the SF Parade, BYU had a float, My hubs was wearing his red U of U shirt and he jumped up to get a picture with Cosmo! Cosmo, being the coward he is, ran to the other side of the street!
    Poor homeless BYU alumni!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Quite a few people from my HS ended up at BYU, but I can't say I've actually seen them since they left 11 years ago. I hope that's not Dan!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow!
    A real live book!
That is because. Mr. Cheeseboy. You are a rockstar!

    ReplyDelete
  40. How neat is that? My students write about me... on their prison walls!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well you know you have made it when you feature in a book. I'll look forward to the Hollywood movie of the same name...

    ReplyDelete
  42. That story is adorable! How fun that you have a leading role. Also, I LOVE that you are a first grade teacher. My oldest guy will be in kindergarten next year. I would love for him to have such a creative teacher as yourself next year. We're moving to Utah........n't. My husband always says "n't", which you may not get. Sorry about that. ANYway, thanks for stopping by my silly blog! I wanted to tell you that since you read it, I added one more little paragraph AND a picture of a man's hair that makes me LAUGH OUT LOUD! Ha! Thought you might want to check it out when you get a chance...

    ReplyDelete
  43. The book idea is awesome! You must be one terrific teacher for youth to use you as a character in a story. I'm very jealous!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Pretty much sounds like my summer too! we have the best job ever, don't we!?

    ReplyDelete
  45. you mean your weeks are filled with professional development workshops?? no fair!!
of course I DID get to go to a Differientiated Instruction conference in Vegas last week..so at least THAT was a good one, but still...do y'all have to do PD during the summer?

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are too funny!!! The life of a teacher during the summer rocks! I have basically the same schedule as you, except I wake up at 5:30am to run due to the desert heat. (I'd pass out if I tried running in the afternoon here!)

As to the BYU fan, he's a fake trying to garner sympathy from the masses. Who gave that guy a Y shirt?????? ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  47. A book with you as the main character? That's exciting! I take two hour naps too. Always the best.
BTW, I have wondered why the Museums don't change. They can at least move the exhibits. That way, people will foolishly think new ones have arrived.
    Toodles...

  48. Sounds like a fun. Very cute sons .I love your blog , it makes me smile & laugh . Congratulations on the coming fame .
    Blessings,

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sounds about like my days-except for the running at 3 pm! Are you nuts???

    ReplyDelete
  52. Seriously, all I can think of is the fact that you jog in the middle of the day.

The Natural History Museum must be a lot like the BYU Bean Museum. I hope you know what the heck I'm referring to. (Although I did think it was a museum of beans for a long time).

    ReplyDelete
  53. I hope it gets published. I would read stuff about cheeseboy on toilet paper if it was available.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Poor BYU guy. Did you buy him a ticket?
